Programs

Community Outreach Volunteer
The Community Outreach Volunteer (COV) can be anyone who would like to spread awareness of blood cancer and LLS resources. This role is typically done in the local community, face-to-face. To support the Hispanic community, they need to be able to speak and read Spanish and attend events, health fairs, and community centers that have a connection to the Hispanic Community. This role is definitely more of an ambassador/promotor role.
Requirements:
-
Able to dedicate up to 5 hours a month to attend local health fair events within the area or within the hospital.
-
Able to speak Spanish.
-
Able to carry 15-20 lbs.

First Connection Volunteers
First Connection Volunteers are for patients, survivors, or caregivers of blood cancer patients. They need to have a direct connection. We are always looking for more representation for this peer-to-peer support program. We match patients to these First Connection volunteers. Having more Hispanic blood cancer survivors/volunteers willing to talk (over the phone) in Spanish with current patients means we can create better matches and experiences. This volunteer program can be done from home.
Requirements:
• Has access to a phone (landline or mobile).
• Able to speak Spanish.
• Willing to converse with in-treatment patients/families and share their story.
